Northeast B.C. Rig Report - September 5

Twelve drilling rigs are at work in Northeast B.C. this week, according to Rig Locator.

That's 26% of the region's fleet being utilized with 35 rigs down. Last year during the same week, 16 rigs were active in the region.

Precision Drilling (7), Ensign Drilling (3), Horizon Drilling (1), and Nabors Drilling (1) are the active contractors in the region this week.

  • Ensign 40 is drilling for gas for Painted Pony at Town. Spud was Aug. 25. 

  • Ensign 45 is drilling for gas for Encana at Sunrise. Spud was Aug. 28.


  • Ensign 444 is drilling for gas for Saguaro Resources at Laprise Creek. Spud was Aug. 21.

  • Horizon 41 is drilling for gas for Encana at Sunrise. Spud was Aug. 26.

  • Nabors 120 is drilling for gas for Petronas at Bubbles. Spud was Sept. 3.

  • Precision 533 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Gundy Creek. Spud was Aug. 25. 

  • Precision 538 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Doe. Spud was Aug. 30. 

  • Precision 544 is drilling for gas for Petronas Canada at Blueberry. Spud was Aug. 11.

  • Precision 542 is drilling for gas for ARC Resources at Dawson Creek. Spud was Sept. 3.

  • Precision 544 is drilling for gas for Petronas at Blueberry. Spud was Aug. 15.

  • Precision 546 is drilling for gas for Tourmaline Oil at Town. Spud was Aug. 26. 

  • Precision 867 is drilling for oil for ConocoPhillips Canada at Inga. Spud was Sept. 1. 

Across Western Canada, 150 rigs are working out of 547, for a utilization rate of 27%.

Alberta has 97 rigs working out of 383, for a utilization rate of 25%.

Saskatchewan has 38 rigs working out of 112, for a utilization rate of 34%.

There are three of five rigs active in Manitoba, and one active in Ontario.

At this time last year, there were 224 rigs at work across Canada.
